GRANVILLE ISLAND COLLECTION

ILLUSTRATION

the client

Ainsworth is a custom metal fabrication studio and storefront filled with local handmade works located at the east end of Granville Island. In addition to my freelance design practice, I also run a greeting card company, Quirky Paper Co., and have had the opportunity to collaborate with other brands (like Ainsworth) to create custom products.

THE BRIEF

Karin Edworthy, Manager of Ainsworth, approached me about creating a collection of custom projects that would highlight Granville Island. Karin wanted to create a set of fun souvenirs that would be enjoyed by both tourists and locals alike.

the approach

This was a dream project as Granville Island is one of my favourite places in Vancouver! I aimed to capture the lively spirit of Granville Island with illustrations that were colourful, vibrant and whimsical, highlighting the iconic features of Granville island, including the neon sign, Aquabus and Public Market.

BUTTON + BOOKMARK

The illustrated button features the iconic Aquabus in front of a scene of the Burrard Bridge. The red glow around the typeface aims to reflect the neon Granville Island sign that greets visitors at the entrance of Granville Island.

The button is packaged along with a bookmark backing. The bookmark is a map of Granville Island, highlighting the key buildings and attractions.

MAGNET + BACKING

The magnet focuses on Granville Island’s Public Market, showcasing the colourful exterior along with the bustle of visitors, dogs, buskers, bikes, and the many seagulls who try to steal your food! The magnet is packaged with a paper backing that continues the illustration on the front, and the back features the metal gates that were created by Ainsworth, which can be found at the entrance of the cement factory.
