the client

Stand.earth is an international non-profit environmental organization that is known for its groundbreaking research and campaigns to create new policies and industry standards in protecting forests, advocating the rights of indigenous peoples and protecting the climate.

the brief

Stand.earth was looking for assistance with creating the cover illustration for the Fossil-Free Fashion Scorecard interactive website and accompanying summary PDF. Stand.earth wanted a unique way to represent “green”, have a graphic that took inspiration from the fashion world (tailoring imagery, blueprint sketches, patterns, etc.), and speak to the future of the industry. The client wanted to embody a fossil free future, conveying the key message that the sector needs to redesign their business model to create a sustainable industry.

the approach

My illustration concept was to showcase fashion that was inspired by renewable energy itself—solar panels creating a bomber-style jacket, and wind turbines forming the structure of a dress. I focused on creating the "blueprint" sketches on the top alongside tailoring tools and gadgets, and illustrated a cityscape below, connecting the renewable energy in the clothing above with the environment below.
